A Different Rhythm of Living

—

There is a particular quality to living within a rural landscape.

Distance, weather, changing seasons and a stronger awareness of the horizon can alter the rhythm of everyday life.

Architecture in the Southern Highlands should respond to this.

Our interest is not in transplanting an urban house into a rural setting, but in understanding what living in this landscape makes possible.

Architecture That Belongs to the Land

—

A rural property asks us to think beyond the building.

Arrival may begin hundreds of metres before the front door. Existing trees, paddocks, ridgelines, water, gardens and distant views become part of the architectural composition.

We consider where a building sits, what it protects, what it reveals and how it changes the experience of moving through the property.

Architecture, interiors and landscape are therefore developed together.

In Bowral, Robertson, Kangaroo Valley and throughout the Southern Highlands, climate also plays an important role. Cool winters, changing light and pronounced seasons create opportunities for sheltered courtyards, fireplaces, thermal mass, filtered sun and intimate interiors balanced by expansive connections to landscape.

The ambition is a home that feels grounded in its setting—comfortable, beautiful and increasingly at home as both building and landscape mature.
