Mosman & Sydney Harbour Architect
Architecture Between Shelter and Outlook
Sydney Harbour offers extraordinary opportunities for architecture. It also asks difficult questions.
Views encourage openness, while neighbouring properties require privacy. Sloping land creates outlook but introduces complexity. Sun, wind, vegetation and the changing character of the harbour influence how a site is experienced throughout the day.
Our approach begins by understanding these relationships before determining the architecture.
Rather than allowing the view to dominate every decision, we consider the complete experience of inhabiting the site—the sequence of arrival, moments of enclosure and release, the movement between inside and outside, the experience of landscape and the quieter spaces where retreat becomes important.
More Than a View
A remarkable outlook does not by itself create a remarkable home.
The spaces around it must still provide comfort, intimacy and belonging.
Architecture can reveal a landscape gradually: a glimpse of water on arrival, filtered light through planting, a protected courtyard before an expansive outlook is finally revealed.
These moments give a house rhythm.
Our work integrates architecture, interior design and landscape so that the experience is considered as a whole. Materials, proportion, light and planting are used to create environments that feel calm and enduring rather than simply impressive.
The ambition is architecture that responds to the qualities of Mosman and Sydney Harbour while remaining deeply personal to the people who live within it.
Jason Gibney Design Workshop
Jason Gibney Design Workshop is a Sydney-based, award-winning architecture and design practice working across residential architecture, interiors and landscape.
Our approach is grounded in an understanding that the environments we inhabit influence how we feel. Each project is therefore shaped not by a predetermined style, but by its people, landscape, climate and particular conditions.
