Jason Gibney Design Workshop is based in Bronte.
It is where we work, where we spend our days, and a place in which we have designed a growing body ofresidential architecture.
Working repeatedly within one neighbourhood creates a particular kind of understanding. You becomefamiliar not only with its streets and buildings, but with its light, topography, vegetation, coastal weatherand the different ways people inhabit the place.
Bronte is defined by contrasts. Ocean and dense urban fabric. Exposed ridgelines and protected gullies.Established houses and contemporary additions. Expansive outlooks and the need for privacy.
These conditions make every site different.
Designing Homes in Bronte

We believe the best architecture begins by understanding what is already there.
In Bronte, that might mean finding sunlight on a constrained site, protecting privacy while opening a hometoward landscape, responding to a steep block, working carefully with an existing house, or creating greaterconnection between interior spaces and a garden.
Rather than beginning with a predetermined architectural style, we begin with the particular conditions ofthe site and the lives of the people who will inhabit it.
Architecture, interiors and landscape are considered together.
A window might be positioned around a tree rather than simply a view. A courtyard might bring light deepinto an existing house. A change in level might become a place to sit. Materials can create warmth andtactility while responding to the demands of a coastal environment.
These decisions are often quiet, but together they determine how a home feels.
Our ambition is to create homes that provide openness without exposure, privacy without isolation, and astrong relationship with nature despite the density of urban living.
Places of beauty, refuge and connection that feel unmistakably part of Bronte while remaining deeplypersonal to the people who call them home.
Our Work in Bronte

Having undertaken a number of projects within Bronte gives us the opportunity to explore different ways of living within the same neighbourhood.
Our work ranges from the transformation of existing homes and apartments to larger residential projects, encompassing architecture, interior design, landscape and bespoke elements.
Each responds differently because each client and site is different.
What connects them is an interest in how thoughtful design can enrich everyday experience—through natural light, proportion, materiality, landscape, moments of retreat and spaces that bring people together.
This body of work also gives us practical familiarity with designing within the particular physical and urban conditions of Bronte and Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, while ensuring every project begins again with the specifics of its own site.

Jason Gibney Design Workshop is an award-winning architecture and design practice based in Bronte, in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.
We work holistically across architecture, interiors, landscape and objects, creating new homes, renovations and alterations and additions in Bronte, the Eastern Suburbs, greater Sydney and regional Australia.
Our work has been recognised by the Australian Institute of Architects, Habitus House of the Year and Grand Designs Australia Magazine, and has appeared in leading Australian architecture and design publications.
While this recognition is deeply appreciated, the true measure of our work is more personal: how a place feels to inhabit, how it supports everyday life, and how its meaning grows over time.
